This tool uses component encoding. It encodes reserved URL characters including slashes, question marks and ampersands.

Percent-encode a URL component
Use this tool for a value that will be placed inside a query parameter, path segment or other URL component. Enter the value and choose Encode URL component to percent-encode characters such as spaces, ampersands, equals signs and question marks. For example, search term & category=tools becomes a value that can be placed safely after one query-parameter name.
Component encoding is not whole-URL encoding
A full URL uses structural characters such as :, /, ?, & and = to separate its scheme, path and query. This existing tool uses browser component encoding, so it escapes those characters rather than preserving a complete URL structure. Encode each value separately, then combine it with the parameter names and delimiters your application requires.
Decode percent-encoded values locally
Choose Decode URL component to read a percent-encoded value such as hello%20world. Decoding runs in the current browser tab and invalid percent escapes return a browser error instead of a guessed result. URL encoding makes text safe for a URL component; it is not encryption and should not be used to protect secrets. For encoded JSON payload text, use the existing JSON Formatter after decoding.
